ACT Writing Enhancements for Fall 2015

The optional essay section (Writing test) of the ACT is changing beginning with the September 12, 2015 test date. The revised ACT essay format was designed to provide more insights to help students become college and career ready. Test takers will now be assessed in four critical writing competencies: ideas and analysis development and support organization language use Each prompt for the revised ACT Writing test will present a paragraph that introduces and gives background on an issue, as well as three differing perspectives on that issue. Included in the test booklet are two pages of planning space which list a series of critical questions that will help to guide the student as they develop and express their ideas. The student’s task has three components: (1) to â€Å"evaluate and analyze† the given perspectives, (2) to â€Å"state and develop† their own perspective, and (3) to â€Å"explain the relationship† between their perspective and those given. Students are free to agree with a stated perspective from the prompt partially or completely, or they may come up with their own position. According to the ACT website â€Å"the new essay is an exercise in both persuasion and analysis, while the old essay was an exercise in just persuasion.† The student has 40 minutes to complete this section, rather than the 30 mi nutes allowed previously. Click here to see a sample ACT Essay Prompt. The scoring for the Writing test is changing too—it will now consist of subscores for the four critical writing competencies mentioned above. Evaluating these competencies separately will allow the ACT to more effectively identify and reward the strengths in the student’s writing, as well as noting specific deficits. However, the actual Writing test score will still be in the familiar 1-36 scale. Additionally, the average scores from the English, Reading, and Writing tests will now be combined, and this will be called the ELA score. The ELA score will also be based on the 1-36 scale. As in the past, the ACT Writing score does not affect the 1–36 ACT composite score. Remember, A+ offers free proctored ACT practice tests that include the Writing test. Why Christian Refugees? Firstly it is the call of my heart to help inform others and assist my brothers and sisters in Christ the best way I can. As Saint Paul put it: â€Å"And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.† (Corinthians 12:26, KJV). I feel a sadness knowing what they are suffering, particularly since it seems as if the Christian refugees have been forgotten, along with those from other religious minorities. There are plenty of majority Muslim nations such as Saudi Arabia and Dubai, that aren’t taking any refugees. Surely it makes more sense for Muslim refugees to go another country that is culturally similar to where they came from, then to travel half-way around the world to a country so different, it must seem like another planet. Christian refugees on the other hand even if admitted to these countries wouldn’t be safe. As much as the idea of Christianity leaving its birth place pains me, the possibility of these people being wiped out is simply too great a risk for them to remain. Secondly, as individuals we cannot help everyone, which is why the Lord gives us all different burdens upon our hearts: Some are drawn to the plight of the orphaned child, others to deliver the gospel to those who have yet to know the love of Christ. What is the role of a child and their innocence? This is a topic that can be discussed thoroughly and quite in depth with many people. The element of a childs innocence plays an extremely important role in their life for not only the reason of staying a child but also refraining them from growing up too fast when it is not necessary. The innocence of a child is precious, malleable, and cannot always be retrieved once it is lost. Sometimes a child is forced to become an adult, from various external influences through experiences in their life, which can quickly result in the hild losing their innocence. As we see in Coraline, a young girl is forced to temporarily lose her innocence because of the sudden disappearance of her parents and also the agreement that she has made with her other mother. While in Peter Pan, he chooses to never let go of his child innocence because he does not want to face the reality of growing up and the responsibilities that becoming an adult. The opening scene of the movie introduces the boys playing pirates and Wendy is picking up after them and watching them closely. She straight-out demonstrates the â€Å"mother-in-training† aspect in the first 5 minutes of the movie. Though as soon as the father comes in complaining about finding his cufflinks he gets upset with them and states â€Å"Wendy, this will be your last night staying in the nursery†¦it is time for you to grow up! † There was a shock and awe felt around the room from hearing those words. The boys cried out, â€Å"But who’s going to tell us stories now?! † Wendy was upset at the fact at what the father said but there was nothing to be done about it.
